Course FAQ’s
What is an LO licence?
If you’ve been wondering what an LO licence is, you’ve come to the right place. An LO licence lets you work with load shifting order pickers and turret trucks for collecting stock stored on high pallets. An LO licence is necessary to ensure only trained people operate a load shifting order picker — as the driver will be required to collect stock while controlling and driving the LO vehicle.
If you’re looking for the licence that will allow you to operate a forklift, you will need an LF licence.
What do I need to prepare to take the LO licence course?
Before the LO licence course begins, we provide our students with pre-study material so that they can find out exactly what is involved and start preparing. In addition to the pre-study material, we recommend wearing appropriate safety shoes for working with heavy machinery.
What is included in the course?
Our LO Licence course is held over 3 days with practical and theory-based units where you will learn the following:
- How to safely drive an LO classified vehicle
- Plan your workflow efficiently
- Conduct routine safety checks of your LO vehicle
- How to shift loads safely using the LO vehicle
- Shut down your vehicle
What are the LO Licence course requirements?
To attain your LO licence, you need to:
- Organise training from a registered organisation like One Stop Training
- Be of 18 years of age
- Produce 100 points of ID
- Have an appropriate comprehension of the English language to understand instruction and complete your training
- You’ll need to lodge your high-risk licence with Workplace Health and Safety QLD, which requires a separate processing fee payable to the state government.
Are LO licence courses conducted remotely or on-site?
LO licence courses are held on-site to manage practical components of the course and supervise the operation of a load-shifting order picker. We can deliver training at our facility in Brisbane or organise training at your workplace.
How do I schedule my LO licence exam?
You can book your LO licence course with One Stop Training online or contact us on 1300 556 387. If you have taken delivery of new machinery, we can help guide you on what registered training you need across all certificates to ensure you maintain compliance with work safety and OH/S regulations. With Afterpay available, organising your LO licensing is easy, and you’ll be ready for work in no time.

Critical Information
It is important to make an informed decision about a course prior to enrolment. In this case, the High-Risk Work Licence test (HRWL) procedure is particularly important. Therefore we recommend reviewing:
- Our Student Handbook
- The High-Risk Work Licence (HRWL) Test information
Delivery Modes
Face to Face – Students attend classes at scheduled times and are presented with subject material by a Trainer. Practical training is delivered in a simulated work environment.
Work Place – This type of training includes both formal and informal learning and on-the-job supervision is required by a licenced operator.
Language Literacy and Numeracy
Courses are delivered and assessed in English and require you to read comprehensive learner workbooks, complete a range of written assessments, undertake independent research activities and at times engage in online forums and discussions. Furthermore, the delivery mode relies on the extensive use of written communication.
If you have any doubts about whether you have the language, literacy and numeracy skills to undertake a program, please contact our administration team on 1300 556 387 for further information.
Assessment Requirements
Assessments are conducted by an assessor accredited for this high risk work (HRW) licence class in the Commonwealth/state/territory where the licence will be obtained (i.e. an assessor authorised by a Commonwealth/state/territory WHS/OHS regulator).
Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and all assessment must be conducted in the English language.
Assessment of performance must be undertaken in the workplace and/or under realistic workplace conditions which typically reflect:
- performing tasks/activities within timelines that would be expected in a workplace
- standard and authorised work practices, safety requirements and environmental constraints
- using full-scale equipment
If the working zone is located at a ‘live’ site, assessment will continue in all weather conditions unless the safety of the candidate or others could be compromised.
Simulators are not permitted to be used in the assessment of this unit of competency.
